Tall Grass Arts Association

The Tall Grass Arts Association also maintains a growing permanent collection of prize-winning art which is exhibited in free public venues throughout the south suburbs. Arrangements can be made for works from the permanent collection to be displayed locally.

Great Bicycle Trails: Illinois

In the state of Illinois there are 38 rail trails that total 421 miles. The people there love the trails; they use them for bicycling, roller blading and hiking. They also have 50 active trail projects with a potential of 659 more trail miles.

SCORE was formed in 1964 to offer current or would-be business owners the expertise of experienced businessmen or women. Chicago Botanic Gardens

The Chicago Horticultural Society has been promoting gardens and gardening since 1890. The Society's flower shows, victory gardens, horticultural lectures and more have touched generations of Chicagoans. With the ground-breaking for the Chicago Botanic Garden in 1965 and its opening in 1972, the Society created a permanent site on which to carry out its mission. That mission encompasses three important components: collections, education and research.

Garfield Park Conservatory

Garfield Park Conservatory houses 10,000 square feet of plants from the world's tropics. Even if it's snowing outside, the conservatory is always in full bloom. Changing educational displays and three spectacular seasonal shows make the conservatory a great place to visit throughout the year.

Lincoln Park Conservancy

Lincoln Park Conservancy is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization founded in 1984 in Chicago, by local resident Emese Wood. Lincoln Park Conservancy (LPC) helped spearhead the creation of the Lincoln Park Framework Plan by releasing a document entitled "Lincoln Park - Preparing for the Twenty-First Century." The 30-page document outlined the need for a long-range plan for Lincoln Park and was the catalyst that began a 4-year park planning process. LPC members took the initiative to raise funds to design and print the 50 page framework plan and produce a companion video entitled, "Lincoln Park: A Plan for the Future."

Morton Arboretum

The Oak Park Conservatory

The Oak Park Conservatory was started as a community effort in 1914 with plants from around the world, brought back by residents. (Customs inspections were different then!) Today, it has 8,000 square feet of growing areas, making it the third largest conservatory in the Chicago area!

Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Department (HCV) manages the CHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program, formerly called Section 8. The HCV program is a system of private rent subsidies awarded to low-income households. The administration of the CHA’s housing vouchers is primarily delegated to a private contractor, CHAC, Inc., which operates under the HCV Department’s oversight. The HCV Department works in tandem with the CHA’s Relocation Department to move residents from buildings undergoing reconstruction and assists them to find temporary and/or permanent replacement housing.

Housing Authority of Park Forest

The Management and Reporting of Statistics on Homelessness (MRSH)

The MRSH project can help a person or a family in need of assistance by providing an extensive database of resources and agencies that is capable of fulfilling their needs. More specifically, these would be the Directory of Services and the Resource Bank, which provide location and contact information as well. Eventually, the MRSH project will be in every library, police station, and other public service buildings in suburban Cook County. This will provide very easy and convenient access to all services in the area. Once assisted, the person or family that has been helped will be better served by a sophisticated information database of services rendered and other important information in an effort to help one become self sufficient (i.e. not homeless.).

The Second City Chicago

The theatre has two resident stages: The Second City Mainstage, which seats 290 and The Second City e.t.c., which seats 180. Each theatre has a resident troupe that writes and performs an original comedy revue. The shows are smart, funny, and highly original. The Second City Training Center operates a third theatre in the Piper's Alley complex on Wells Street called Donny's Skybox Studio Theatre. Donny's Skybox features an eclectic mix of student productions as well as other alternative shows.

The Second City also has touring troupes that take our shows on the road, a Training Center that teaches improvisation, acting, writing, and other skills, and a corporate communications division that services the business world.

Village of Lynwood

Located in the far south suburbs bordering Indiana, Lynwood was first settled by Dutch immigrants in the mid-1800s and was incorporated on December 18, 1959 with 66 eligible voters of the towns 180 residents approving the incorporation. By 1970 the population in Lynwood had grown to 1,042. In 1971 Allied Home, developed the Lynwood Terrace subdivision on a 650-acre farm. That same year the village offices opened on Glenwood-Dyer Road and the volunteer fire department was established with two firefighters. In 1972 the Van Rancho subdivision was renamed Lake Lynwood. In 1995 a special census numbered Lynwood residents at 7,614 and growing.
