iCreate Media Lab

The Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library’s iCreate Lab is a creative technology studio is available to all Glenwood-Lynwood Library patrons. Equipped with four iMac desktop computers, the iCreate Lab is the perfect place to create high quality projects.

Access

The iCreate Lab is open to Glenwood-Lynwood Public Library District (GLPLD) cardholders (12 years of age and older) in good standing. Good standing is defined as having a valid GLPLD card with less than $5.00 in fees & fines. Those who are not GLPLD cardholders may use the iCreate Lab at a cost of $2.00 per hour (60 minutes) on a drop-in basis.

Adult patrons (18 and over) must present a valid state ID, driver’s license or a GLPLD library card in good standing at the time of the appointment. The cardholder booking the iCreate Lab appointment is responsible for other users accompanying him/her.

If you’re using the iCreate Lab and you need to utilize one of the Public Computers outside the room; you must end your iCreate Lab reservation/session and remove your items.  Once you’ve completed your Public Computer session, you can reserve the room again.  Vacating the iCreate Lab allows new users to utilize the room should the need arise.

Children may use the iCreate Lab without supervision ages 14-17 may utilize the iCreate Lab with the signed permission of a parent or guardian without supervision. Children who are ages 12 & 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must always remain in the Lab with the child.

Workstation Reservations

There are two workstations available for use in the iCreate Lab. Each workstation is comprised of an iMac computer, mouse, keyboard, and associated software.

Individual workstations within the iCreate Lab can be used during library operating hours and do not require any advance notice; However, reservations may be made and will take precedent. Each reservation is for a two-hour time period and can be extended provided there are no reservations for the following time slot.

Reservations can be made up to one week in advance, but only one advance reservation may be held at any time.

Any project involving the use of a microphone or non-headphone compatible instrument will

require a whole-room reservation. All other projects will reserve one single workstation.

Group Project Reservations

The iCreate Lab is not a single occupancy room. More than one patron/group may be working in the lab at once, using different pieces of equipment.

Reservations can be made for the entire room and extended beyond the two-hour limit if there are no reservations for the following time slot. Groups are limited to 6 people.

iCreate Lab Appointments

Contact the library at 708-758-0090 to schedule an iCreate Lab appointment. Appointments will be held for 10 minutes after the scheduled start time.

 Bring your valid GLPLD Library card or your state ID or driver’s license when checking in. These will be held until you are checked out at the end of your session.

Session Help

Staff may be available for basic assistance during iCreate Lab operating hours for experienced users.

Library staff may be available to provide an overview of the use of the equipment and software and can direct users to training documents. Users may request an appointment for training from Computer Lab staff. Library staff are not available for extensive instruction or assistance without an appointment.

Appointments with Computer Lab staff will not be accepted for extensive artistic or graphic design consultation or general computing questions.

Comprehensive online training, Quick Start Guides, and books are available upon request.

iCreate Lab Guidelines

  • The iCreate Lab will be open during normal Library hours and vacated 15 minutes prior to the Library
  • All general behavioral guidelines for the Library
  • No food or drinks of any kind are permitted.
  • A maximum of 6 people are allowed at any time
  • The iCreate lab is for those using specialized software and hardware. Public computers (for general computer needs), study areas and rooms are available elsewhere in the library.
  • Patrons working with audio or video will be asked to use headphones to minimize noise.
  • All work, file saving, file uploading, etc. must be completed by the end of your reservation.
  • Patrons must bring their own portable media storage such as a USB drive, SD card or external hard drive.
  • It is the responsibility of the patron to delete and/or remove any files (digital or print) from the equipment in the iCreate Lab. The Library is not responsible for equipment or files (digital or print) left behind by patrons.
  • Personal information, saved passwords, web history, and files created while using the iCreate Lab are not automatically deleted at the end of each session, so patrons should make sure to delete any personal information before ending their session.
  • Patrons should not install any programs on iCreate Lab equipment without permission from the Computer Lab staff member on duty.
  • Do not use any of the equipment for illegal or unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted material or content you have not been authorized to reproduce or distribute.
  • Please report any issue with the iCreate Lab equipment to the Reference Desk.

Rules Governing Use

Use of the iCreate Lab is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancelation of this privilege. Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Obscene behavior including public display of obscene materials on computer screens or in hard copy.
  • Excessive demands on library staff for assistance in using the equipment.
  • Using the workstations to gain access to the library’s networks or computer systems or to any other network or computer system.
  • Obstructing other people’s work by consuming substantial amounts of system resources or by deliberately crashing any library computer system.
  • Making any attempt to degrade, damage, or disrupt computer equipment or software.
  • Making any attempt to alter software configurations.
  • Any attempt to degrade library system performance.
  • Using any library computer for any illegal or criminal purpose.
  • Engaging in any activity which is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.
  • Engaging in behavior that is disruptive to other computer users.
  • Uploading or creating computer viruses.
  • Deliberately invading the privacy of other individuals.
  • Violating copyright laws or software licensing agreements.
  • Installing any software, unless permitted by library staff, on library computers.
  • Violations will result in loss of computer privileges. Unlawful activities or deliberate misuse of computers will be dealt with in a serious and appropriate manner to the full extent of local, state, and federal law.
